Shaun and Marci Dutile were born and raised in the Lakes Region of NH! High School sweethearts (awww) they married young and went off to a Christian college together where their faith really began to take root. While at Harding University they joined a team of 4 couples who desired to start a new church on the East Coast, specifically NJ. They moved to North Brunswick, NJ in the summer of 2004 and embarqued upon a personally transformative church-planting work for the next 10 years.
During that time Shaun worked toward a Master's Degree in Professional Counseling and learned, through trial & error, success and failure, what it means for the church to be the church in modern times. Shaun learned how to shepherd people, serve people, love people, give one's life for the betterment of people, and to apply Scriptural truths to the hurts and hangups of Christians and non-Christians in the community. During this time Shaun & Marci also began to understand better the church's role in the context of the larger neighborhood and city of which they are a part. They became convicted that the right question in starting new churches of Christ is not "What can our church look like in 10 years?", but "What can our city look like in 10 years because of the church?"
Two years prior to departing NJ Shaun & Marci began to feel a tug on their hearts for their homeland. With the lessons and experiences gained in NJ they now felt called to be a part of starting new churches in NH! Over the next two years the Lord paved the way for them to transition out of NJ into NH in a healthy, yet emotionally difficult way. They participated in a church-planting assessment process through Kairos in which they were confirmed in their calling. The Lord provided them, far outside of their own efforts, a full-salary to move to NH and begin the work! The church leadership in NJ supported them to the very end. To leave the people they had loved for nearly 10 years was one of the hardest things they have ever done. However, Shaun & Marci were convinced of their calling and finally moved to Laconia in January 2014.
You may ask, "Why Laconia?" Good question. Shaun's extended family has lived and worked in Laconia for over 5 generations now. A 4th generation Dutile & Son's Oil company still serves the community from their Messer St. location and, Lord willing, will continue for another generation. His roots go deep in Laconia as a local cemetery attests. It can be argued from Scripture that when the Lord calls people to be missionaries to share Jesus with people in various places of the world, He does so by first placing on their hearts a distinct love for those they set out to serve. The same can be said in this case; Shaun & Marci have a distinct love for the people of Laconia that has been a large part of their drive to begin the Water's Edge church!
To talk with Shaun more about the church, Jesus or anything else of curiosity please email him!
Water's Edge is also guided by a board of directors, chosen by the lead church planter, to help give direction and focus in this early stage of church development. Presently the board of directors consist of:
- Maureen Brady (secretary)
- Marci Dutile (general board member)
- Shaun Dutile (president of the board)
- Al Littizzio (general board member)
- Sharyn Littizzio (general board member)
