About Jesus

Water's Edge- A church of Christ adheres to the Inter-denominational Protestant Creed (1983). But in simple terms a Church of Christ is a church founded on and by Jesus Christ. But who is Jesus and why is He so important? Below are 20 descriptions of Jesus which account for a small sample of the many reasons we feel so compelled to surrender everything to Him!

  1. Jesus existed before He existed!

    • Strange but true. Before Jesus was born in a manger He was in the beginning with God, creating all things. (John 1:1-3)

    • To the Jews Jesus said, "Before Abraham was [3,000 years ago!], I am" (John 8:58).

  2. Jesus did not just teach truth; Jesus was the truth! (John 14:6).

    • Another passage says that in Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Colossians 2:3).

  3. Jesus is our way to Heaven! (John 14:7)

    • Jesus became the ladder tall enough to reach God.

  4. Jesus rose from the dead!

    • All religious leaders have died. Only one rose from the dead. Only one overcame death. More than 500 people attested to it (1 Corinthians 15:6).

  5. The love of Jesus is 4-dimensional! (Ephesians 3:18)

    • It is higher, wider, deeper and longer than we can comprehend. But oh how we want to comprehend it!

  6. Jesus came to give us freedom! (Romans 6:22)

    • Once we have been set free we never want to go back

  7. Jesus performed miraculous powers to heal the sick, feed the hungry, and raise the dead (Matthew 11:4-5)

    • "The Bible tells us that God did not originally make the world to have disease, hunger, and death in it. Jesus has come to redeem where it is wrong and heal the world where it is broken. His miracles are not just proofs that he has power but also wonderful foretastes of what he is going to do with that power. Jesus’s miracles are not just a challenge to our minds, but a promise to our hearts, that the world we all want is coming" (Keller, The Reason for God, p.93).

  8. As King of the world Jesus was crucified for the sins of the world (1 Peter 2:24)
    • As the popular Downhere song sings; "How many kings step down from their thrones? How many lords have abandoned their homes. How many greats have become the least for me? How many gods have poured out their hearts to romance a world that's been torn all apart? How many fathers give up their sons for me? Only one did that for me"
  9. Jesus was born from a virgin (Luke 1:26-34)

    • Miraculous from the start!
  10. Jesus lives today in His people (Galatians 2:20)

    • Life with Jesus is about daily living for Him who died for us!

  11. Jesus will one day return  to restore and redeem the world! (2 Peter 3:13)

    • Pain and suffering will not all be meaningless

  12. Jesus is the Head, the Leader, of His church (Ephesians 1:21)

    • People must indeed lead groups of people called the church, however Jesus is the One all must answer to.

  13. All things were created by Jesus and for Jesus (Colossians 1:16)

    • Many things have gone astray, but from the beginning all things were made by Jesus and for His glory.

  14. All treasures of wisdom and knowledge are found in Jesus (Colossians 2:3)

    • All learning and education must begin with Him!

  15. At the name of Jesus everyone will eventually bow (Philippians 2:10)

    • There is no one better we could serve anyway!

  16. We are all more sinful than we ever dared imagine; but in Jesus we are more loved than we ever dared hope! (Romans 7:24, John 3:16)

  17. The Bible was written to bring us to Jesus! (John 5:39-40)

    • It is God's salvation story from beginning to end.

  18. While on Earth Jesus had power even over the weather (Matthew 8:27)

  19. As Master of all Jesus served (John 13:6-17)

  20. Jesus stands at the door and waits for all who would to open to Him and let Him in (Revelation 3:20)
